Apple announces MacBook Air with Apple’s Arm-based M1 processor

Apple announced the launch of their MacBook Air 2020. It's powered by the new M1 processor from Apple. This is the first MacBook Air to feature Apple's own Arm-based CPUs, designed specifically for Macs, and one of the first laptops.

The new MacBook Air, the same price as the previous MacBook Air released in March, starts at $999. (On Apple's website, this model seems to have been discontinued.) It's available on November 17th, but you can order it today.

A seven-core GPU and 256GB of storage, as well as 8GB of memory, are part of the base model. Models start at $1,249 (with 8 GB of memory) with an eight-core GPU and 512 GB of storage. The maximum configuration is $2,049 with 16 GB of memory and 2 TB of storage. The machine can come preinstalled with Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro X for an additional $299.99 and $199.99 respectively. It comes in gold, silver and space grey, like its predecessor.

The M1 chip is similar to the processor in the recent iPhone 12 and iPad Air, and in the previous MacBook models, it is built on a different architecture than Intel processors. In an effort to balance power and longevity, Apple says it has four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. It also claims that the chip offers the best per watt per watt of any CPU in the world and allows instant wake speeds, so that as soon as you open it, your laptop switches on. This should all add up to a longer battery life and better performance than the previous model.

The new Air looks pretty similar to the MacBook Air we saw before, design-wise. The exact same weight and almost the same size as its predecessor is 2.8 pounds and 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.16-0.63 inches.

Is MacBook Air Worth Buying 2020?

While we imagine the price of the MacBook Air 2019 will drop now that the 2020 model is available to buy, unless it drops by a huge amount, because of the power difference, it will still be worth going for the newer model.

Apple has officially confirmed the MacBook Arm laptops, which turn out to be refreshed models of the MacBook Air 2020 and 13-inch MacBook Pro

Is MacBook Air or Pro better?

The MacBook Air is your best option

There are a few obvious areas that set the two apart though. The superior display and performance of the MacBook Pro makes it much more suitable for pro-level tasks such as video production and photo editing, where a color-accurate display and low rendering times are essential.
